Jeddah: women permitted on chamber of commerce board

Originally published

For the first time in the history of the Kingdom, the Saudi Arabian authorities permitted businesswomen, members in the chamber of commerce and industry in Jeddah, to be nominated for the elections for membership of the chamber's board, due to take place in November.

Legal advisor at the chamber of commerce and industry in Jeddah, Mustafa Sabri, said that the chamber of commerce received a decision from the minister of commerce and industry Hashem Abdullah Yamani permitting business women members in the chamber to nominate themselves for the board membership, after the elections committee had rejected their nomination in an earlier request, whereafter the matter "was submitted to the minister of commerce."

Sabri expected the decision to be applied later on the chambers of commerce and industry in the major Saudi cities.
