Abul-Gheit: Arab coordination on holding anti-terror summit

Originally published

Foreign Ministers of the Arab states involved in the Barcelona Process will hold a meeting on Thursday to coordinate stands prior to the Arab Foreign Ministers Council session, due to be held later on the same day.

Egypt's Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit said that the meeting will discuss the outcome of a Euro-Mediterranean meeting held at senior officials level in Brussels on Tuesday.

Abul-Gheit said that topics tabled on the agenda of the Arab foreign ministers session include fighting terrorism.

He added that Egypt has recently sent a message to the UN Secretary General expressing its willingness to revive the issue through calling for holding an extraordinary General Assembly session to examine it.

He said that the issue will be tabled on the agenda of the Arab League's Council, referring in this respect to ideas put forward by Saudi Arabia for setting up a regional centre for anti- terror studies.

He expressed Egypt's support for those ideas.
