Arab League fails to define a date for Arab summit

Originally published

The Arab foreign ministers who held a one day meeting in Cairo on Thursday failed to reach an agreement on the date for the special Arab summit which Egypt had proposed to convene following Sharm al-Sheikh attacks in Sinai on July 23.

The ministers postponed taking a decision over the date to convene the summit until after the holy month of Ramadan, as from the beginning of November, though the foreign minister of Bahrain, Muhammad Bin Mubarak al-Khaleifa, announced on Wednesday that the summit will be held by the beginning of October.

For his part, the Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael said that the convening of the summit in October will not take place, noting that a committee will be formed to prepare for the summit and that the member states will be meeting after Ramadan for the utmost.

The summit was due to be convened in August but the death of the Saudi King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz postponed it until indefinite time.
