US army frees 1000 Iraqi detainees from Abu Ghreib jail
The American army in Iraq announced it has released about 1,000 prisoners from Abu Ghreib jail in Iraq, at the request of the Iraqi government at a time the political sides were trying to reach agreement over the constitution.
In a statement, the American army said that the process of releasing 1000 security detainees (those who are not found guilty of carrying out acts of violence), was accelerated, noting that the detainees started to be released as from August 24 until Saturday, and they belong to all Iraqi sects.
The release operation came after the Sunni member during the negotiations of formulating the constitution demanded the authorities to release the Sunni prisoners so as to be able to take part in the constitution set on the mid of October.
