Egyptian human rights council to monitor elections

Originally published

The National Council for Human Rights is to follow up coming presidential elections closely and investigate any complaints or violations immediately, the council's president Butros Butros Ghali said on Saturday.

Ghali, a former UN Secretary General, said the council would set up an operations room to keep contacts with all government agencies running the electoral process, the first multi-candidate election in the Egyptian history. The center is now organizing training workshop for journalists how to cover the vote in August, one already held and the two others in the pipeline.
