Originally published

Egytp's President Hosni Mubarak received on Friday an elaborate report from Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit on the outcome of the emergency African summit that was held on Thursday in Addis Ababa.

Meantime, Abul Gheit said that the summit was highly successful.

The foreign minister added that President Mubarak sent a number of messages to the African heads of state in which he briefed them on the necessity to abide by the African stance which is based on the principles of Sirte summit.

Abul Gheit pointed out that the ten heads of state were chosen to promote the African stance during the millennium summit that will be held in September at the UN, noting that the emergency summit was attended by eight African presidents and a large number of heads of governments and foreign ministers.

Meanwhile, the summit discussions rejected the proposals of the Nigerian presidency on showing flexibility which means to give up the veto right and to give up the fifth seat.

Abul Gheit asserted that most countries, including Egypt, rejected this stance.
