Dates are contradictory on Mubarak's announcement on running for president
The Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak intends to nominate himself for the next presidential elections, juts two days before the supervising committee of the elections announces the opening of the door to the elections, officially.
News are contradictory on the date when Mubarak will announce his consent on the nomination of the ruling national party for him. The Egyptian daily al-Gomhoreyah announced that this announcement will be announced within hours, while al-Akhbar said he will announce his decision today.
The party's general secretariat announced repeatedly said that Mubarak (77 year old) who has been president since 1981 will be its candidate for the next elections set on September 7th.
It is not expected that Mubarak will face a strong competition due to the difficult conditions required to become an official nominee in the presidential elections. The new election law to choose a president allows competition for the office, and replaced the old law where there was only a referendum system to confirm one candidate chosen by the parliament where members of the national party occupy more than 90% of its seats.
