Lebanese premier stresses distinguished relations with syria

Originally published

The ministerial statement of Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora underlined keenness on establishing distinguished and strong relations with Syria based on the fraternal, historic, and geographic ties and comman interests between them.

The statement stressed the importance of the joint Arab action and Arab solidarity in the framework of the Arab League.

"Lebanon stresses commitment not to be a 'passage or a residence' to any organization, power or state that targets it or Syria's security, because Lebanon's security is Syria's security and vice versa," the statement asserted.

Regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict, the statement attributed the instability in the region to the Israeli continuing occupation of Arab lands, reiterating solidarity with Syria's stance.

The ministerial statement is free of any hint to the UN 1559 resolution, the matter that reflects the statement commitment to the Taif Accord.
