'Morocco's democracy and Polisario's failure brought me to my homeland,' former Polisario official

"The growing climate of democracy and the failure of the "Polisario" enterprise are among the reasons that compelled me to return to my homeland, Morocco," Hammati Rabbani, said in Rabat on Monday.

Rabbani, a former top "Polisario" official, who had held twice the position of Minister of Justice and Religious Affairs in the self-proclaimed Sahrawi Republic (SDAR), as well as high positions in the security services of this phantom entity, fled on June 30 the Tindouf camps, in the Algerian territory, to return to Morocco.

"Polisario" is an Algeria-backed movement that claims the separation of Morocco's southern provinces (the Sahara) from the rest of the country.

Speaking at a press conference, that also saw the presence of several ex-officials in the "Polisario," Rabbani explained that he "can't conceive a fair and definite solution to the Sahara conflict outside the framework of regionalization."

This regionalization, he said, "will only be stronger if it takes into consideration the populations and takes advantage of their great potentials."
