Junblat admits defeat before Aoun in Mount Lebanon
The Druze leader Walid Junblat admitted his defeat to Michael Aoun in the third round of legislative elections in the Christian circles of Mount Lebanon. He described that as a victory for extremism.
In a televised statement, Junblat said he admits Aoun's wining of the elections in the Christian circles in al-Matin and Keserwan-Jbeil and in Zahleh, the capital of the Bekaa governorate, noting that the victory of Aoun is a victory for "extremism over moderate attitude."
He added that this result is a victory for the Lebanese president Emil Lahoud and the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, noting that the two said presidents "brought Aoun not only against Muslims as a whole but against Hizbullah."
For his part, Aoun stressed that his list won all seats of Baabda-Aley, noting that he was confident he will be winning as a result of his close association with the people in this area.
For his part, the former Lebanese minister of the interior Michael al-Murr said that the all four candidates proposed by Aoun and his allies won the majority of the seats in the Christian northern al-Matin circle.
Unofficial results showed that Aoun and his allies are inclined also towards achieving great victory in the Christian area of Keserwan-Jbeil.
These developments coincided with continued operation of votes selection in the third round of the parliamentary elections which took place on Sunday in the governorates of the Mountain and the Bekaa to choose 58 parliamentarians in the parliament out of the total 128 seats of the parliament.
Official sources expected final results of these elections not to appear before Tuesday evening.
