RAM contributes to creation of Gabonese carrier
The Moroccan carrier, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) will contribute to the creation of a new Gabonese airliner dubbed "Air Gabon International," announced a RAM official.
Mohamed Amraoui said the creation of the new company, which will replace "ailing Air Gabon" is at a "very advanced stage," predicting an agreement between the Gabonese State and the Moroccan company in the few coming weeks.
Air Gabon International is due to supersede an ailing Air Gabon (created in 1977) because of serious financial problems that nearly crippled the company's operations for many years now.
In July 2004, Gabon launched a bid to partially privatize Air Gabon part of a global project to set up a structure for air transportation in the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CAEMC) that musters, besides Gabon, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Chad.
The "Air Gabon International" project is RAM's second successful experience in the continent after the creation of Air Senegal International of which RAM is a major shareholder by 51%.
