Originally published

The Dutch foreign ministry of Wednesday summoned the Sudanese ambassador in order to file a complaint over the detention of one Dutch relief officer working in Doctor Without Borders organization because of the organization's report on rape cases in Darfur to the west of Sudan.

A spokeswoman for the ministry said that Ambassador Abu al-Qasim Idris will be notified that the arrest of Vincent Hweidth and his boss the British Paul Formann is an unacceptable matter, and that the ambassador has to come to the ministry to meet with a high ranking official.

The Dutch minister of state for foreign aids Van Ardin said in a statement that "relief employees should be able to work without obstacles."

For its part, the organization deplored the detention of the director of its program Formann under the accusation of committing crimes against the state and disseminating misleading reports against the Sudanese society.

The statement described the accusations as groundless, aiming at spreading fear in the lines of UN organizations.
