France commends the Lebanese elections

France on Wednesday commended the first phase of the Lebanese elections and considered that they fall in the course of the Lebanese traditions which Paris is careful to maintain.

In a press conference, the French spokesman Jan Mattai said that these (Lebanese) elections which will be continuous until June 19 fall in the course of honoring the Lebanese democratic traditions which France is very keen to maintain."

He added that UN observers especially the Europeans were able to carry out their mission satisfactorily. Mattai concluded saying that these elections should be carried out at set times, enabling "free Lebanon from any foreign interference in confrontation of challenges of the future.
