Libyan court adjourned Bulgarian nurses case sentence
The Libyan supreme court announced that Libya postponed, until November 15, reconsidering the appeal proposed by five Bulgarian nurses and one Palestinian doctor facing death penalty over being the reason for infecting 400 children with HIV virus, of whom 47 children died as a result of AIDS.
While the Bulgarian President Georgi Baranov, the EU commissioner for external relations Beneta Valdner welcomed the decision, the families of the infected children demonstrated before the court in protest of the decision and chanted slogans "we do not want compensation, we want death penalty for the killers."
Confrontations took place between the security forces and the demonstrators who tried to enter the court.
Meantime, the official Libyan news agency reported that "Chairman of the Peoples Committee for the Society for the Care of the Injected children said after the court's decision to postpone the sentence "We respect the court's decision of this case, but in the same time we hope the others would respect it also. We the parents of those children- the victims- don't note any dismay for the postponement time because a case of such magnitude deserves all this time to give the chance to juridical authority to study the file from all sides."
