Aoun in Lebanese elections independently, apart from Hariri, Junblat
The leader of the free national faction Michael Aoun announced that his faction will enter the Lebanese parliamentary elections independently after his failure to establish an alliance between his trend and each of the independent trend led by Saad al-Hariri, son of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri and the Socialist Progressive Party led by Walid Junblat.
Aoun said, in a press conference held at his headquarters in al Rabeyah to the north east of Beirut, that the negotiations he had held with the Sunni trend and the Druz party have not resulted in an agreement on forming a united list for the elections in the Baabda - Alei circle.
Aoun called on his supporters to effectively take part in the elections. This call came amid the increasing number of persons and sides boycotting the elections to be held on phases as from May 29th and end on June 19th.
