Fate of hundreds of missing Kuwaitis in Iraq still unknown
The UN Security Council has commended the new Iraqi government over the help to search for hundreds of missing Kuwaitis, who have been missing since the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990.
A report by the council welcomed Iraq's cooperation in publishing names and pictures of the missing in the media, and also the message of the Iraqi foreign minister Hoshyar Zeibari to the UN Security Council on March 9th in which he expressed the desire of his government to help in solving this issue.
The report, of the Russian envoy which was issued in the name of the UN secretary general Kofi Annan which was viewed by the Security Council, said that the fate of more than 200 Kuwaitis and others is still unknown while the Kuwaiti authorities was able during the few past years to know the fate of 270 bodies.
The report also admitted that search for the Kuwaiti prisoners and others have not attained a great progress since December 2004, noting that the reason behind that is the difficult security conditions in Iraq.
