Originally published

The al-Madayen crisis in Iraq has been settled after police detained 40 persons in the city, when its forces were deployed into the city, but found no hostages nor faced any resistance. This was during the inspection operation carried out by these forces supported by American forces.

The operation searched for gunmen who were alleged to have seized Shiite families and threatened to kill its members in this city which is situated to the south of Baghdad.

The national Islamic resistance in Iraq warned against what it called the attempt to provoke the spirit of sectarianism among the people of the country. It considered in a statement that what had happened in al-Madayen is an attempt to divert the attention of the Arab and Iraqi street of what it described the drastic failure in forming the government.

Meanwhile, the national dialogue council which includes 30 Iraqi parties and political trends called for opening an investigation over the implications of al- Madayen crisis and disclosing the side which stood behind it. In a message addressed to the Iraqi President Jalal al-Talibani the council considered that al-Madayn crisis was an attempt to drag Iraq into a sectarian war.
