American security team in Dubai to inspect containers heading to the US
Dubai's ports authorities in the United Arab Emirates started yesterday the implementation of a sea security agreement with the USA, according to which a team of the border protection administration and the American customs in the port will be deployed to inspect warehouses of goods heading for the USA.
The Dubai's ports authorities are the first ports administration in the Middle East to join this agreement when the declarations of principles were announced in December 12, 2004 in Dubai.
Chairman of the American costumes and border protection commission Robert Bonner and the executive director of the ports, customs and free zone in Dubai Sultan Bin Salim said that Dubai customs employees will check any container specified as dangerous side by side with the officers of the American customs and border administration who will be stationed in Dubai.
Bonner said that the basic principles of the containers security initiative permits joint assessment of dangers of every and each container heading to the US via sea before loading it on ships and before ships reach the American naval ports.
The American border protection administration signed bilateral agreements with 21 countries since 2000 when the containers security initiative was launched, supported by the world customs organization, the European Union and the G-8.
