UN calls for accountability law of the weapons traffickers in Somalia
The UN Security Council showed determination to maintain accountability for persons responsible for selling weapons to Somalia. The council called on all world countries to firmly implement the law providing for embargoing selling weapons to Somalia which has been enacted and enforced since 1992.
In a resolution adopted unanimously on Tuesday under the name of 1587, the UN Security Council expressed its denunciation for that weapons and ammunition continued to arrive in Somalia.
The council asked the UN secretary general to reform the monitoring group within 30 days and for a 6 months period.
This group is to be assigned in particular to investigate the embargo by the member states. The group will provide practical recommendations on embargo violations especially through preparations to draw a list those violating measures linked to the embargo on Somalia or other places.
