Lebanese army general highlights relations with Syria
Lebanese Army Commander General Michel Suleiman stressed Sunday that Syria's decision to withdraw from Lebanon will not affect the deep-rooted relations between Syrian and Lebanese armies.
"Both our armies have the same enemy, Israel, which has been targeting our security and stability," Suleiman said in a statement during a meeting with Lebanese Leadership staffs, pointing out that the two armies share the same joint aims.
Suleiman stressed that freedom which people have in Lebanon is due to the Syrian troops and security forces and the "Syrian martyrs' blood which was shed on the Lebanese lands planted a unified Arab independent Lebanon," the General added.
"We must not forget that Syria's continued support to the Lebanese resistance that led to liberating a great part of South Lebanon which was occupied by Israel," the Lebanese Army Commander said, asserting that the Lebanese resistance is one of Lebanon's national firm principles.
