Qathafi calls for the abrogation of the UN Security Council

Libya's leader Muammar al-Qathafi said on Wednesday that the UN has to end the role of the UN Security Council and assign its authorities to the UN General Assembly, should it eventually want to be a democratic organization.

In a one-full page advertisement in the British daily "the Guardian", Qathafi described "an ugly dictatorship machine." Al-Qathafi said that the world is better represented via the UN General Assembly which is composed of 191 members but has 'no power, responsibility and respect."

He said according to JANA: " We expected after World War 2 that the General Assembly safeguards peace and people in the world, but regrettably it was the most weak, and it a mere decoration, it was like Hyde Park and can do nothing without the order of its master, the Security Council, which is not a security council but a council of terror."

He "called for the need that democracy is realized in the UN and that the General Assembly becomes the parliament of the world. He wondered how come those who ask for democracy in the countries of the world are exercising dictatorship from the most important world institution which is the United Nations," Jana reported.

He indicated that sending negotiations to New York is a financial loss of countries "which want to be a side in its ridiculous acts." Al-Qathafi stressed that "the intention to expand the Security Council might expose the world security to danger and launches a cold war that might be converted quickly to a hot one." He considered that converting the international body force to the UN General Assembly may encourage peace and democracy. And should this not happen, then, Libya and other countries in the UN will simply withdraw from the UN.
