Sheikh Nasser al-Sabah to Al-Ahram praises relations with Egypt
In an exclusive interview with Al-Ahram, Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohamed Al-Sabbah, Minister of Kuwait's Amiri Court said that his country won't be worried about its Arab dimension in the presence of Egypt under President Hosni Mubarak, who represents the "Safety Valve" for solving all regional and Arab problem through his wisdom and fairness given that Egypt is the strategic depth of Kuwait.
Excerpts:
ÊÊÊ * Kuwait's Amir, government and people cannot forget Egypt's favor in all domains over history including education, culture, development and health.
* The Egyptian stances in favour of Kuwait are innumerable, and Kuwait can never forget such stances against Iraqi invasion and ambitions since the 1960s when late President Gamal Abdul Nasser took a noble stance against the aggression of Abdel Karim Kassem.
* The national stances of Egypt were repeated then crowned by the shuttle tours of President Mubarak in 1990 to stop plans for invasion by Saddam Hussein.
* Unfortunately, Saddam didn't respond to the wise advises of President Mubarak. If he has done so, it would have been possible to spare Iraq and the entire region a lot of suffering and problems.
* Furthermore, Egypt was the first to criticize the unfair Iraqi invasion to Kuwait. It denied and condemned the invasion and called upon an extraordinary Arab Summit that took a decision for immediate pullout.
* Egypt then took part in the liberation and reconstruction and what is more important is that the great Egyptian people has embraced the Kuwaitis during the distress of invasion, giving the most obvious meanings of love, sincerity and close union between the two peoples.
* President Mubarak will continue to be the "Safety Valve" for all Arabs.
*Kuwaiti support to the Arab League will never stop and we do appreciate and highly esteem the Arab League Secretary General and his assistants, and any previous controversy about a certain issue is now over.
* Terrorism is existent since the Middle Ages." It is an International phenomenon and is not limited to a certain region, a certain people, or a certain religion.
*We in Kuwait are against terror, and we support all international efforts in terror combating.
*We also support the call of Saudi Crown Prince to establish an International anti-terror center. We also support all decisions and recommendations adopted by the anti-terror conference convened in Riyadh with the participation of 60 countries.
* I'd point to the full GCC cooperation to dry out the origins of terrorism, and protect the youth generations of the destructive ideas.
* The danger on Kuwait has gone away with the end of Saddam Hussein. We hope that Iraq would continue to be a good neighbour and a friend of Kuwait.
