Junblat welcomes the Syrian redeployment

Chairman of the Lebanese socialist progressive party Walid Junblat welcomed the Syrian announcement on the redeployment of the Syrian forces in Lebanon but he simultaneously called for a direct negotiations with the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad for the interests of the two states.

Junblat also held the Lebanese authorities responsible for any security violation to take place in Lebanon when the Syrian forces withdraw from Lebanon. This was expressed few hours after the announcement of the redeployment of all the Syrian forces to the Bekaa ( east) area.

The party announced in a statement on Thursday evening that the announcement made by the Lebanese prime minister Omar Karami to that the immediate withdrawal of the Syrian forces will shake stability as constituting a direct threat from the Lebanese authority to all Lebanese people.

In Washington, the spokesman for the US Department Of State said that the US supports any step that proceeds into the direction of complete withdrawal of the Syrian forces from Lebanon and non-intervention in its affairs. The spokesman said in exclusive statements to al-Jazeera TV that judgment of the Syrian statements will be based on what is implemented on the ground.
