Sudanese parliament receives peace agreement, Taha delegated for Darfur negotiations
The Sudanese national council ( parliament) on Saturday received the peace agreement signed between the government and the southern rebels in preparation to ratify it for adoption.
The Sudanese news agency quoted the speaker of the parliament Ahmad Ibrahim al-Taher as saying that the council will halt its sessions in order to debate the agreement after Eid al-Adha holiday.
He added that debating the agreement comes according to the reached agreement that it should be approved within 15 days of signature, noting that the national committee which will be formed will work for drawing the draft of the provisional institution within 6 weeks.
Worthy mentioning that the Sudanese parliament and the councel of the southern rebels can not amend the agreement, according to its texts, rather can only accept or reject it categorically. This raised controversy in the circles of the opposition which asked to have greater share in the lines of the authority beyond the 14% included in the agreement.
Meantime, the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir announced that the coming phase will witness building and preparing the Sudanese armed groups for the phase of peace.
