Lahoud and peace in the region
President Emile Lahoud of Lebanon said Monday that the absence of peace was the real danger threatening security and stability in the Middle East.
"Lebanon calls for the achievement of just and comprehensive peace based on the international resolutions, land-for-peace formula and the Arab peace initiative," President Lahoud asserted in a meeting with Arab and foreign diplomatic figures at Baabda Palace in Beirut.
"The UN resolution 1559 is a direct danger on the national Lebanese unity ... Lebanon had opposed it because it ignored peace in the region and demanded Lebanon to carry out things that pose real risk for its national security and stability," he added.
He said pressures on Lebanon aimed at settling the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon through denying them the right to return home, in addition to harming the Syrian- Lebanese relations.
