Moroccan court refuses bail to ex-Guantanamo detainees
The criminal chamber of the appellate court of Rabat denied Monday bail pending trial to two Moroccans formerly held by US forces in the US Guantanamo base after their arrest in Afghanistan.
The Court had already denied last Monday bail to the two individuals.
Three of the five former Guantanamo detainees, handed over to Morocco last August, were already granted bail, namely Redouan. C (33 y.o), Abdellah. T (50 y.o) and Mohamed. O (26 y.o).
The five men are facing charges of "belonging to a criminal band, non-denunciation of a crime harming state security, assistance to a criminal band by transferring money to Moroccans with the aim of creating a gang that threatens Morocco's interests and participation in the forging of a passport."
The Court plans a confrontation between the five defendants and Noureddine Nfiâa who is serving a 20 year prison sentence for belonging to the "Moroccan Combatant Islamic Group."
The next hearing in the trial was set for January 17.
