President of Eritrea, Asyas Afourki, yesterday, paid a sudden visit to Sanaa, which is the first since 1998 when the Eritrea's forces occupied the greater Hanish island.

The Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh held with his Eritrea counterpart Asyas Afourki two sessions of close door talks. The first was limited to them while the second was attended by senior officials representing officials in the two countries.

Yemeni diplomatic sources said that the visit of the President of Eritrea came at the invitation of the Yemeni President in order to discuss relations between the two countries and fields of developing them as well as issues relating to security and stability in the Red Sea and the African Horn.

The sources considered that the summit came in the course of the efforts made by Yemen to solve differences pending between the two countries after Eritrea's boats had entered the Yemeni territorial waters.
