UN secretary general extends the mission of UNDOF in the Golan for 6 months

The UN secretary general Kofi Annan yesterday recommended the extension of the mandate of the UN Observer Disengagement Force in the Golan between Syria and Israel until the end of June 2005. He called on the UN member states to pay their due contributions to finance the force.

In his brief report, Annan said "due to the prevailing conditions, I do consider that continued presence of force in the region is necessary and I therefore recommend the Security Council to extend its mandate for other six months."
