British Ambassador in Damascus Peter Ford described Syria-Britain relations as good, and that the Syrian presence in Lebanon is based on Lebanese government support.

"Bilateral relations between Damascus and London is excellent É the UK welcomes Syria's joining the European-Mediterranean family," the British Ambassador said in an interview with Lebanese Magazine Sada al-Balad ( Echo of the Country ) on Sunday.

"The Syrian Presence in Lebanon is based on Lebanese government support and al-Taif Agreement É several mutual issues between Syria and Lebanon are a matter related to both governments," Ford told the Magazine.

He added that Syria's clear stance over peace process has thrown the ball to "the Israeli courtyard." " Till nowÉ we didn't notice any Israeli response to the Syrian overture É Syria's position is very important.. Syria has stretched hands out, and it is an opportunity to resume the Syrian-Lebanese track.. and the international community should encourage the Syrian step," the British Ambassador said.
