Moroccan Imam survives murder attempt in Corsica
A Moroccan Imam of a mosque in Sartène, (southern Corsica) survived Friday night a murder attempt, official sources said.
According to prosecutor of Ajaccio, assailants shot bullets at the door of the imam's house, which is also a mosque, after yelling at him with racist insults.
The Imam could have been injured with several bullets if he did not have the reflex to pin against the wall, said the prosecutor.
Assailants drew a big swastika on the door of the house, and wrote "Arabi For a" (Arabs out), said the same source.
Corsica prefect, Pierre-René Lemas, who condemned this attack, said it could have had serious consequences.
He said French interior minister, Dominique de Villepin, was informed on the issue, and that it will not be dealt with racist acts with tolerance.
Violent and racists acts have been targeting the Maghreban community in Corsica for more than a year.
