Dahlan supports the nomination of Abbas, a hesitant position for al--Aqsa martyrs groups

The military wing of the Fatah movement said it will support a truce of 60 days with the occupation under the condition that the occupation will honor it.

In the same context, al-Aqsa groups denied its opposition to the nomination of Abbas for the Palestinian Presidency. Al-Aqsa group official in the West Bank, Zakaraya al-Zubeidi, said that "when the Palestinian people honor its President we will honor the decision of the people."

Earlier, a spokesman for the al-Aqsa martyrs group said that the movement opposes nomination of Mahmoud Abbas for the Presidency of the Palestinian authority and supports Marwan Barghouthi who is detained by Israel, to succeed Arafat.

Barghouthi's wife said last Saturday that her husband is thinking of nominating himself for the next presidential elections.

Against the vibrant stand taken by al-Aqsa group, the former Palestinian minister of the interior Muhammad Dahlan used all his weight to support the nomination of Abbas to succeed the late Palestinian President Arafat, considering that Abbas " might be a bridge between the past and the present as well as the future in bringing generations together."

In a meeting with Journalists in his office in Gaza, Dahlan said that what will prevail in the future for Fatah or the PLO or the Palestinian authority are "democracy and free elections."
