Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Awkaf Minister open Al-Noor mosque
Al-Azhar Grand Imam,Mohamed Sayed Tantawi, said that Al-Azhar sends top preachers to all world countries to propagate the Islamic teaching all over the world and stressed that they are Egypt's ambassadors abroad.
This came during the opening of Al-Noor mosque in Shibeen Al-Kom that cost LE 2 million where Tantawi delivered the Friday prayer sermon in which he talked about faith and the building of the mosques.
Meanwhile, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar called on Friday for barring conferences held by Ibn Khaldun Centre for Development Studies in Egypt.
Sheikh Tantawi, in an interview with Kuwait's Al-Rai Al-Aam newspaper, hit out the center's calls to "filter" the Islamic heritage, particularly the hadiths, the traditions told by Prophet Muhammad.
He said that it is a call to dampen one of the basic legislative sources in Islam, describing the latest conference held by the center under the title "Islam and Reform" a "stigma."
Tantawi said that some officials with the centre are "outlaws" as one of them had been accused before of treason.
