The Saudi dailies issued yesterday said that gunmen threw one mortar at a residential complex in Riyadh inhabited by foreigners but no casualties were reported.

The Saudi Gazette daily quoted the director of the complex Richard Damai that the bomb blew up on Friday late night, two meters from the guarding center of al- Sader complex which is situated in al-Rawda quarters. After that the attackers opened fire in the air from their machineguns before they had fled, according to the same source. The guards of the complex which includes 279 villas did not retaliate the fire which lasted for 30 seconds and took place when most people of the quarters were sleeping.

The Saudi daily al-Madina, for its part, quoted the spokesman for the Saudi ministry of the interior Mansour al-Turkey as saying that the attack seemed to be for the purpose of frightening people.
