Originally published

The European Union announce yesterday it has initially agreed with Syria on September 15 on the precise formula of the article pertinent banning the dissemination of the mass destruction weapons in the European Association Agreement (AA) between the two sides.

The spokeswoman for the EU commissioner for foreign relations Chris Patten, Emma Odwin, said that this agreement was reached during talks held by Syrian and European negotiators in Damascus, noting that the item relating to the mass destruction weapons will be proposed in the comprehensive text of the AA and the authorities concerned in the two sides are to study the text later on for approval.

Odwin said that " this AA is the only forum in which senior Israeli officials can meet with their Syrian counterparts and many other countries." In Damascus, the Syrian minister of finance Muhammad al-Hussein said that the two sides are approaching signing the final agreement. He added " there are certain small details, but things are proceeding in a good way."
