Moroccan press: Spanish Popular Party is behind new anti-Morocco campaign
The Moroccan press accused Monday the Popular Party of former Spanish premier, Jose Maria Aznar, of lying "behind the new anti-Morocco campaign."
The Moroccan press pointed fingers at the Spanish Popular Party after Spanish daily "El Mundo" that published Monday an advertisement for a book written by its assistant director, Casimiro Garcia Abadillo. The book is supposedly the fruit of an investigation that led to the discovery of the real authors of Mars 11 attacks which killed 191 people and left hundreds of injured.
The book, titled "11 March, vengeance," accuses Moroccan intelligence services of being behind the attacks.
"No need to make a huge effort to understand that "Jose Maria Aznar's Popular Party is behind this new anti-Morocco campaign," commented "Aujourd'hui le Maroc" daily, saying the former Spanish prime minister has still not recovered from his defeat in last March 14 elections and the success of the Socialist party of José Luis Zapatero.
The paper deplored that "every time there's a silver lining in the cloud of relations between the two neighboring countries, a local press is used to strain the entente."
"Aujourd'hui le Maroc" opines that "El Mundo" is the "illustration (É) of this reality where professionalism is undermined by other interests."
On its part, "Al Ittihad Al Ichtiraki" underlined that the Spanish newspaper has made of Morocco a target to its "media hallucinations."
The Moroccan paper deplored that "El Mundo" depended in its 'investigation' on anonymous letters to propagate a series of lies and fabricate a scenario so as to involve Morocco in these "hideous attacks."
Morocco, it said, has always worked to improve relations with Spain and reduce tensions in the Mediterranean.
Relations between Morocco and Spain have long been strained but they significantly improved since the current Spanish premier took office.
The north African country has staunchly condemned the terrorist attacks of March 11 and expressed solidarity with the Spanish people.
