Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara and Head of the (PLO) Political Department Farouk al-Qaddoumi discussed the latest developments in the region, particularly in the occupied Palestinian lands.

During their meeting Monday, both sides discussed Israeli policy of maneuver, the issue of the Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails and the necessity of having an active movement on the Arab and the international scenes to put an end to their sufferings.

In this regard, both sides asserted importance of bolstering the national accord among the Palestinian factions "since it is the base for achieving the Palestinian people's legitimate aspirations and boost their steadfastness."

Later in the day, Qaddoumi said that his discussions with Minister al-Shara dealt with the Palestinian-Syrian relations and means of boosting them.

In a statement to reporters following his meeting with al-Shara, Qaddoumi underlined that they asserted necessity of working hard to expand the Arab activities to support the Palestinian prisoners' steadfastness and the Arab solidarity.

He added that the meeting also dealt with the agenda of the forthcoming meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers due in Cairo on 16 September.
