A majority of persons polled online by the US TV channel "PBS" support Morocco's rights over the Sahara and the Kingdom's national union and territorial integrity.

A rate of 68% out of a group of 39,420 participants in the on-line opinion poll conducted by the US TV channel say they support Morocco's stance in the issue.

The poll was conducted after PBS interviewed James Baker, former UN secretary general personal envoy for the Sahara, who stressed that Morocco's sovereignty over the territory enjoys the unanimity in Morocco. "It's an issue that inside Morocco there is no dissent with respect to it. Everybody, every political party, everybody from every shade or persuasion will tell you that the Sahara is Moroccan. Period. That's it," Baker told PBS.

Baker further argued that the territory resources are not a factor in the conflict insisting "if there is some indication of economic production and viability it might even make it easier in the final analysis to find some mutually acceptable political solution."

For Baker, who served in the position for seven years before resigning last June, also explained that Morocco and Algeria are "the two protagonists in the issue."

Algeria, a financial and military backer of the Polisario movement which is claiming the separation from Morocco of this former Spanish colony retrieved by Morocco in 1975 under the Madrid accord with Spain and Mauritania, has always denied being involved in the conflict.
