After the failure of the efforts to eliminate the fire, Egypt destroys al-Timsah station for gas exploration

The Egyptian minister of oil, Sameh Fahmi, decided to destroy the naval al-Timsah platform for natural gas exploration. This decision was taken following the continued fire which erupted in the refinery for the 11 running day.

A special committee including oil experts will supervise the platform destruction operation which is situated at the northern entrance of the Swiss canal in the coastal Port Saeed city to the northern east of Cairo.

Last week, the fire-fighting teams opened side holes by drilling instruments with the aim of eliminating amounts of flowing gas from the well before blocking it completely.

Al-Timsah platform is considered one of the largest Egyptian gas fields. It produces some 60 million cubic meters of gas and is owned by the Italian Eini companies, British Petroleum ( BB) and the Egyptian general company for oil.
