US Congressman demands preventing weapons smuggling to Israel

Jewish Congressman from California at the US house of representatives Tom Lantos, currently visiting Cairo accused the Egyptian government as having not made enough efforts to prevent weapons smuggling to Israel.

Lantos, the democratic member in the International relations committee at the Congress said in a press conference in Cairo said that Egypt can close the tunnels which Israel says that the weapons pass through it to the Palestinian territories.

Lantos himself, was behind a memorandum calling for reducing the American military aid to Cairo. A memorandum which was rejected at a great majority at the Parliament on July 16. The memorandum aims at converting 570 million dollars of the American military aids to Egypt to economic aids.
