Khartoum specified certain areas in Darfur for the return back of refugees
The Sudanese government has announced it specified 11 areas around the capitals of the three states of Darfur situated to the western part of the country on being safe areas that displaced persons can returned back to.
The Sudanese government also re-opened a refugee camp that can accommodate 90,000 persons after it blocked it following the killing of a Sudanese governmental employee working with the relief team at the hands of gunmen among the rebels in Darfur.
A governmental source explained that the specified areas are situated to the north around al-Fasher city ( Abu Shiuk, Zamzam and Taweila ) and to the south around Neyala ( Qalma, al-Shatti and Deleiba ) and to the west around al-Jeneina ( Morni and Zeleinghi).
The government dispatched to the district employee who were assigned to establish secure areas to accommodate the displaced persons.
These sites were agreed upon with UN representatives, but Ban Brunik, the special envoy for the UN secretary general who welcomed the decision of the Sudanese government accused it of being slow in enforcing security in Darfur. He stressed that the Arab Jangaeid militias are still active the district.
On the other hand, the spokesman for the Sudanese army Lt. Gen. Muhammad Saeed Suleiman said that the mission of the forces of Nigeria and Rwanda which are currently deployed in Darfus is limited to protect the observers of the cease fire.
These statements coincided with the arrival of the Burundi forces of 150 soldiers while this will be joined by 150 soldiers from Nigeria on August 25th for the same mission. Khartoum rejects the idea of converting the African force into a peace keeping force in Darfur.
Darfur area is witnessing a civil war resulted in killing between 30 to 50, 000 killed since February 2003 and the displacement of hundreds of thousands to Chad, according to UN organizations.
