US permits diplomats to return back to Saudi Arabia

Originally published

The US has permitted its non- essential diplomats to return back to Saudi Arabia but without taking with them their families after it ordered them to leave with their families several months ago.

The foreign ministry said that the families of the diplomats in its embassy in Riyadh and their two consulates in Jeddah and al-Zahran will not be permitted to return back until an unspecified time. Washington also renewed a warning to the American citizens to postpone travel to Saudi Arabia and urged persons there to leave the kingdom, noting attacks which targeted American citizens " and the grave continued threats against their safety during their stay in Saudi Arabia."

The spokesman for the US Department Of State, Kurtz Copper, considered that the security situation in Saudi Arabia has improved along the four months. He commended the efforts of the government in Saudi Arabia to "fighting terrorism," but simultaneously noted that the Saudi leadership and senior security officials take it for granted that there is a more to do before eliminating this threat.

Within the escalated attacks against the Americans in Saudi Arabia, the US ordered non- essential employees in its embassy and their families to leave the country on April 15 and urged all its citizens to leave because of what it considered new indicators for planning of attacks against American and western interests.

Worthy mentioning that the US abrogated on Thursday a previous warning to its citizens not to travel to Bahrain, it had issued following attacks launched by al-Qaida organization at American and western citizens in Saudi Arabia.
