Imprisonment sentences extended for 34 members of Muslim Brothers in Egypt

Originally published

The supreme state security court in Egypt decided to extend the imprisonment of 34 members in the Muslim Brothers group for 15 days for investigations.

This is, however, the third time in which the judiciary renews imprisonment for 34 persons out of 60 of the Muslim Brothers activists detained in May.

The state security court addressed to the 34 detainees the accusations of trying to revive the activities of the group which is banned by the Egyptian authorities.

The convicted persons were detained during campaigns in several Egyptian governorates and the government said it found with them books and publications campaigning for the thinking of the Muslim Brothers in addition to convening a series of organizational meetings.

One of the group's senior figures Akram al-Zuheiri was killed in prison in June, and the national committee in defense of prisoners of opinion called on the attorney general on the need to investigate al-Zuheiri's death.

The committee said that in addition to the death of al-Zuheiri ( 42 year old) inside the detention centers, many of his colleagues were tortured at the headquarters of the state security investigation in Naser city.
