Saudi police kills one gunmen in Mecca
Saudi Arabia's ministry of the interior announced that the police killed one gunman in Mecca after he had thrown a bomb at the security forces.
A statement by the Saudi ministry of the interior said that one police man was slightly injured in the clashes.
A security source said that the police tried to convince the gunman -- in the mid of his 20th -- to surrender, but was obliged to open fire on him when he threw the bomb. The source explained that the man, Saleh al-Badrani is not in the list of names of persons wanted in the kingdom, adding that the Saudi security forces are mopping up the area in search for persons linked to the killed man.
This incident, however, comes several days after the Saudi ministry of the interior has announced the detention of Fares al-Zahrani, one of the main wanted on the list of 26- wanted..
By the detention of al-Zahrani, the number of persons on the list of wanted is reduced to 11 after other wanted were killed, or detained or surrendered.
The Saudi authorities accuse those men of being members in al-Qaida organization led by Osama Bin Laden. They are suspected of carrying out the wave of attacks took place in the kingdom on May 2003 and resulted in killing 90 persons and wounding hundreds.
