Al-Akhbar: Arab League takes part in restoring back stability in Darfur
The Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa said the pan-Arab group is going to participate in any mechanism agreed upon by the UN and the Sudanese government to restore stability and monitor the situation in the western Sudanese region of Darfur.
Moussa told the Egyptian "al-Akhbar" daily in an interview published Wednesday the mechanism aimed to bring back stability to the troubled Darfur through careful monitoring of all developments in the region.
He said the Arab League was going to take part through a unanimous Arab group in the political talks scheduled late this month in the Nigerian capital of Abuja between the Sudanese government and rebel movements in Darfur.
The AL chief called on the Arab states to quickly send humanitarian aids to the region to secure restoration of stability there as soon as possible.
