Jordanian minister thanks Syria and Egypt over electricity support

Originally published

Official Spokeswoman for the Jordanian government Ms. Asma Khudr on Tuesday thanked Syria and Egypt for offering to help in the crisis of power cuts in Jordan Monday evening.

Khudr told a news conference that the electric grid linked to the Arab Power Grid entering Jordan from Syria and Egypt was automatically cut off because of high demand for power in Jordan, adding that both states have nothing to do with what happened.

She also denied reports that the Egyptian gas flowing into the Aqaba thermal power plant was behind the power cuts in Jordan, saying that the crisis was up to technical failures inside the plant itself.

The spokeswoman added that Jordanian Minister of Power had immediately phoned his Syrian and Egyptian counterparts who in return expressed readiness to help Jordan solve the technical problem in Aqaba plant on the Red Sea.
