Rebels suspicious of the offer of sharing wealth in Darfur
The rebels "Justice and Equity" movement in Darfur suspected the seriousness of the proposal made by the Sudanese government to share wealth and authority in the district which is situated in the west of Sudan.
The spokesman for the movement Ahmad Hussein Adam renewed his demands to the Sudanese government to dismantle Jangaweid militias and try its leaders over what he called the war crimes in Darfur.
Sudan's minister of information al-Zahawi Ibrahim Malik announced Khartoum's readiness to convene a meeting with the Darfur rebels, the same as it did to solve the conflict in southern Sudan. Malik stressed that foreign companied discovered oil in Darfur in addition to copper and uranium. He expressed the readiness of the government to deploy 12,000 policemen if the situation needs so. He said that the current plan is to increase the number of policemen in the area from 5,000 to 6,000 during the few coming days.
The Sudanese minister added that this increase comes according to the agreement between the Sudanese government and the UN aiming at ensuring security of the region and relieving it from the armed groups which are mostly responsible for crimes committed against the civilians.
