Syria releases conductors of Israeli goods after Amman's apology

Originally published

Damascus on Saturday evening announced readiness to release the drivers of Jordanian trucks where Israeli goods were seized, while trying to transport it to northern Iraq.

The Syrian decision came following a telephone call from the Jordanian prime minister Faisal al-Fayez with his Syrian counterpart Naji Otari in which the former asked for " mere humanitarian reasons the release of the drivers of these trucks who did not know the origin the the loaded goods they were transporting. "

SANA said that the Jordanian embassy in Damascus asked the Syrian foreign ministry in an official memorandum apologizing for the mistake made by the trucks passing the Jordanian borders to the Syrian territories, denying that the Jordanian drivers had known the origin of the goods and appealing the Syrian authorities to take appropriate legal measures and simultaneously expressing confidence that such violation of the Syrian laws and procedures of the Arab boycott of Israel will not be repeated. This was, the memorandum said, on the ground of fraternal relations between the two sisterly states.
