President Lahoud interview with a Syrian daily, outlines developments
Lebanese President Emile Lahoud on Tuesday said Arabs have no longer trust in the US as an honest patron of the Middle East peace process and urged the US to reconsider its decisions regarding Syria.
In an interview with al-Thawra newspaper, Lahoud added that he demanded and still is calling for a more active European role in the peace process.
He warned against the "Zionist lobby effect on the US administration which would soon discover that it was wrong in its calculations."
" The US administration must reconsider its decisions due to Syria's role at the regional level and because stability in the region can not be at Syria's expense, particularly they have more than one time admitted Syria's remarkable role to combat terrorism," Lahoud said.
The Lebanese president stressed the importance of the joint Arab action through the following up and implementation depicting the Syrian-Lebanese relations as "historical" and "distinguished" as well as "permanent" and pointing out that contacts have never stopped between President al-Assad and himself.
