Large explosion in the electricity distribution center in Algiers

News reports in Algeria said that a strong explosion yesterday hit " SonelGas station" for the distribution of electricity and natural gas in al-Hameh quarters in the downtown of Algiers."

The news reports said that the explosion was a result of technical error. Medical sources in Mustafa Bacha university hospital said that 13 persons were injured in the explosion with one of them in a critical health condition.

On the other hand, the Algerian minister of the Interior, Nour eddine Zarhouni, said that the explosion seemed "accidental." Al-Hameh electricity station which was inaugurated by the Algerian President Abdul Aziz Butaflika in June 2003 feeds other electricity stations in the country.
