Scores of Muslim brotherhood leadership members detained in Egypt
News reports in Cairo said that the Egyptian security authorities detained 50 leading figures of the Muslim Brothers group in the Egyptian governorates of Alexandria, al-Daqihlia, al-Manofeyah and Cairo, in what was described as a new campaign against the group that covered also closure of the group's website on the Internet.
The leading figure in the group Issan al-Aryan criticized the campaign of arrest and told reporters it was surprising and unexpected because the difficult conditions taking place in the region, especially in Iraq and Palestine, has been always requiring greater solidarity in Egypt, noting that he expected the government would have pursued a new policy but did not do that, rather returned back to old practices in a clear contradiction with the calls for reforms overwhelming in the region.
Issam also stressed that one of the reasons behind the setbacks which hit the Arab states is the non- existence of solidarity between governments and peoples, noting that chasing militant groups and living forces only serve the interests what he described " enemies of the nation."
